Of course boys differ widely in physical co-ordination and what is easy and natural to one can only be achieved through long and determined practice by another: but there is really no reason why any school team should field badly, provided they are keen enough, practice enough and their practice is wisely and enthusiastically directed.
Good fielding calls for quick starting, quick stooping and balance. These can, without doubt, be stimulated by activity exercises in the gymnasium or out in the open, during the winter as well as in the season: any competent P.E. Teacher will, if consulted, be able to provide the right type of exercises and nothing is more certain in cricket than that such an investment will pay a dividend.
But, of course, the major part of the job has to be done out in the open and with a ball.
